After all, she was a special girl who had the heart of a demon despite being born as a child of man, and she had fulfilled the duty given to her by loving a demon. He then recounts that “Eve” had been something Karl Heinz had kept a close eye on for a quite long time. It seems that this isn’t the first time Socrates has sat through this lecture, however, as he leans back and lets out a short, bored “ahh” as his response. For this dear wish to be realized, Karl Heinz stresses, both Adam and Eve are absolutely necessary. Now looking almost hurt by his friend’s words, Karl Heinz implores Socrates not to say such things as he reminds him that his dearest wish is to see to the creation of new life. Socrates’s playfulness from just moments before vanishes as he easily sees through his friend’s words to the deeper meaning lying beneath them, and he nods to himself while making the comment that things have always been fine as they are. Socrates jokingly wonders if his friend is attempting to quit while he’s ahead but Karl Heinz explains that while he’d like to continue the match, they both know that there’s no other path for him to take.
Ignoring Karl Heintz’s compliment Socrates asks if there is somewhere he has to go again, and Karl Heinz replies softly that “the plan” must continue on. [Karl Heinz: I must continue on with the plan.” Socrates lets out an annoyed grunt rather than responding, and Karl Heinz makes it a point to now compliment his old friend by saying that the match was both good and enjoyable before he moves to rise to his feet. As Socrates pouts in his defeat, wondering aloud why he seems to have lost yet another round, Karl Heinz then shows him a softer smile as he states that this time seems to be his victory.
Inside of his private study, Karl Heinz seems to be enjoying the end of another round of chess against his dear friend, Socrates, as he announces “checkmate” with a pleased grin.
